Question:

I'm nearly 22 years old and I have not the financial possibilities to marry. But I need to have sexual contact. I want to ask whether it is allowed to make mut'ah; I mean a marriage for a short period of time.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Marriage in order to be valid in Islam must be contracted with the intention of life-long partnership. Mut'ah, or temporary marriage, is considered un-Islamic. It has been abolished by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) through categorical statement. Therefore, there is no room for that in Islam.

If you have the intention to remain chaste through marriage, surely Allah will provide for you if you are sincere in your search for a lawful source of income. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you were to trust in Allah earnestly, He would surely provide for you even as He provides for birds; look how they fly out of their nests in the early morning with empty bellies and return saturated." So trust in Allah and pray that He makes you chaste through marriage.

Allah Almighty says: "Ask Allah of His bounty. Lo! Allah is ever Knower of all things." (An-Nisa's: 32)
